First Skydive

Read more...My first (tandem) skydive was on September 10, 2005. It took place at Skydive Suffolk in Suffolk, Virginia. This, by far, is the coolest and craziest thing I have done! I originally set this up as a birthday present for one of my buddies. As I told a few other friends, I quickly found out they wanted to jump too.

Shamrock Marathon

Read more...For those of you who know me, you know that the Shamrock Marathon was not something that I was really counting on running. But I did.

I have always loved running to stay healthy and to clear my mind. It is a form of meditation to me. When I run I think about events, places or people with another perspective. This allows me to keep an open mind about the things that happen in my life and in my opinion, to stay calm.

Halfmoon Mountain

Read more...This weekend Tina, Jim and I hiked Halfmoon Mountain. It is located in Wardensville, West Virginia. Based on reviews we found on other websites we agreed that this hike would be ideal for a first overnight trip for Jim and I. Tina is the more experienced hiker among us and she has cold weather camping experience.

Read more...David Lee Turner, 68, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009. Mr. Turner was a native resident of Hampton. He grew up on Big Bethel Road and was a lifelong peninsula resident as well as a member of Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church.

Nags Head Trip

Read more...This week my cousins invited me to stay with them at Nags Head, North Carolina. They rented an efficiency at the Blue Heron Motel. It is on the beach at mile marker 15.5. This is a nice place to stay and I do recommend it. While they enjoyed an entire week there, I was able to make it down on Monday and stayed untill Wednesday.

First Solo Flight!

Read more...For while now I have been taking flying lessons at Curtis Eads Flight School. On May 5, 2008 it paid off! Well, kind of. I got to fly solo for the first time! I had about 14 hours at this point.

Billy Goat Trail Hike

Read more...My buddy Jim and I have been planning a hike for some time now. After some research and some recommendations by friends, we decided to do the Billy Goat Trail.

This trail is located along the beautiful Potomac River in Maryland. Three sections make up this trail for a total of a five mile hike. We chose to hike Section “A”, the longest, at 1.7 miles, and most physically demanding of the three sections. It consists mainly of rock, boulders, and steep precipices.

First Helicopter Ride

Read more...Well gang, I went for my first helicopter ride on Thursday! The bird I flew [in] was a Huges 369E. Huges developed this style of helicopter in the early 1960's as an answer to the US Army's requirement for a light observation helicopter. McDonnell Douglass acquired Hughes in 1984 and continued to build this model and classified it as a MD-500 Series. This Helicopter is equipped with a Alison 250-C20B turbine engine rated at 420shp (shaft horsepower).
