David Lee TurnerDavid Lee Turner, 68, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009. Mr. Turner was a native resident of Hampton. He grew up on Big Bethel Road and was a lifelong peninsula resident as well as a member of Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mr. Turner had a career of serving others. He worked for Ram Aviation at Patrick Henry Airport. He enjoyed cooking and worked for Holiday Inn 1776 in the banquet department where he prepared special orders. Mr. Turner’s career led him to Patrick Henry Mall where he was employed for 15 years. There he specialized in house keeping and worked directly with the children from Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Center. He had the privilege by Roger Brown, President of Patrick Henry Mall, to be the first Santa Clause there and continued for the next 7 years. Mr. Turner had numerous positions in which he gave back to the community. He was active with the Williamsburg and York County Jaycees and operated the Haunted House and sold Christmas trees. He was the type of person that never met a stranger.

Mr. Turner is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years Jeanette Turner and after 18 years of marriage they were blessed with a son Laurance Raymond Turner of Portsmouth; mother-in-law Rosa W. Westcott; 2 sisters, Patty Burchett (Maynard) of Middlesex, VA and Lana Charles (John) of Hampton, VA also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 2:30PM in Amory Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bill Kyle, Rev. Bobby Collins and Rev. Norman Rush. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
